Seasonal Interest

FCGC members often draw inspiration for their own gardens from touring other gardens, large and small. In September 2008, the Club traveled by bus to the U.S. Botanic Garden, where FCGC members took a guided tour of the Conservatory, then had time to check out the outdoor gardens close to the Conservatory.

If you find Acalypha hispida hard to remember, the common name--Red Hot Cat's Tail--could not be more apt.

In winter, most gardeners take a break from outdoor gardening and use the season to research and plan for the next growing season. If you find yourself looking for an excuse to get outside to garden, though, check out the gardening checklist for winter for ideas.
